Are Olde English Bulldogs rare? ›

In reality, the Olde English Bulldogge isn't a popular breed compared to the modern English Bulldog, but it's a breed we should consider.

Olde English bulldogges are easy to train. They love to please their owners and learn new commands quickly. Aside from basic obedience training and commands, they can be trained for service dog work, emotional support, and even as guard dogs. Ultimately, they're moldable dogs that you can train to fit your needs.

“Holy cow” you might be saying to yourself, “why is this breed so insanely expensive? Well, the answer to that is relatively simple. The primary cost to breeders is from the fact that English Bulldogs must be C-Sectioned from the mother which can cost upwards of $1500.

Males should be 60 to 80 pounds (27 to 36 kg), and 17 to 20 inches (43 to 51 cm) at the withers, while females should be 50 to 70 pounds (23 to 32 kg), and 16 to 19 inches (41 to 48 cm) at the withers.

Various genetic crosses have been used in carefully and thoughtfully planned breeding programs to obtain this goal. The foundation of most of today's Olde English Bulldogges can be traced to English Bulldog, American Bulldog, APBT and Mastiff.
